It is characterized by poor permeability through intact skin. In the case of absorption through damaged skin, it is metabolized to microbiologically inactive monic acid and rapidly excreted by the kidneys.
Indications
Intranasal ointment: carriage of staphylococci (including strains of Staphylococcus aureus multiresistant and resistant to methicillin).
Dermatological ointment: treatment of primary infections of the skin – impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis (including furuncle of the external auditory canal and auricle), ecthyma; secondary infections of the skin – infected eczema, infected injuries (abrasions, insect bites), minor (not requiring hospitalization) wounds and burns; prevention of wound infection after small cuts, wounds and minor abrasions.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the ointment.
With caution: during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Use with caution due to the lack of data confirming the safety of the drug during these periods. If Bactroban is prescribed for the treatment of nipple cracks, then the nipples must be thoroughly washed before feeding.
Side effects
Very rarely – itching, burning, soreness and dryness of the skin at the site of application; rarely – skin allergic reactions; in isolated cases – systemic allergic reactions; rhinitis (when using intranasal ointment).
