Indication
The preparation is a medicine that inhibits the effect of the male sex hormone (testosterone) (non-steroidal antiandrogen).
It is used for locally advanced prostate cancer and a high risk of disease progression
as sole therapy or
in addition to radiotherapy or surgical removal of the prostate.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be taken
if you are allergic to bicalutamide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
if you are taking certain medicines for treating digestive disorders that contain the active ingredient cisapride,
if you are taking certain medicines for treating allergies that contain the active substances terfenadine or astemizole,
by women,
from children.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
1 film-coated tablet once daily.
This dose also applies to elderly patients, patients with impaired renal function and patients with mild liver impairment.
Caution is advised in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment.
Duration of application
The medicine should be taken without interruption for at least two years. If your disease progresses during this time, your doctor may recommend that you stop treatment with the medicine early.
If you have taken more than you should,
please inform your doctor. He or she can decide on the measures that may be necessary. The undesirable effects of taking too high a dose of bicalutamide are not known. There is no specific antidote. Dialysis is not advisable according to the current state of knowledge. If an overdose is suspected, the symptoms must be treated. In addition, general supportive measures are recommended, including constant monitoring of the patient.
If you forget to take it,
you should continue treatment as prescribed. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop taking it,
the success of the treatment may be jeopardized. Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
