contraindication
The drug must not be taken
if you are allergic to alprazolam, other benzodiazepines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
if you suffer from a certain type of severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis).
if you suffer from severe breathing disorders.
if you sometimes stop breathing at night (sleep apnea syndrome).
if you suffer from severe liver dysfunction.
if you are acutely intoxicated with alcohol or other substances that affect the brain.
Alprazolam dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adult
Initial dosage:
½ – 1 tablet 3 times a day (equivalent to 0.25 – 0.5 mg alprazolam 3 times a day). If necessary, the dose can be increased at 3-4 day intervals to:
Maintenance dosage:
1 to a maximum of 6 tablets per day, divided into several individual doses (equivalent to 0.5 – 3 mg alprazolam per day).
Elderly patients, debilitated patients or patients with renal or hepatic impairment
Initial dosage:
½ tablet 2 – 3 times a day (equivalent to 0.25 mg alprazolam 2 – 3 times a day). If necessary and if the clinical picture permits, the dose can be increased at intervals of 3 – 4 days to:
Maintenance dosage:
a maximum of up to 3 tablets per day, divided into several individual doses.
A lower dose (1 ½ tablets, equivalent to 0.75 mg alprazolam per day) is recommended for frail patients or debilitated patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
For dosages that cannot be met with alprazolam, tablets with 0.25 mg and 1.0 mg alprazolam are available. If side effects occur, please contact your doctor. The dose should possibly be reduced.
If a dose increase is required, the evening dose should be increased before the daytime dose is increased.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.
duration of use
The duration of treatment should be as short as possible.
After a long period of use, the treatment should be stopped gradually (reduction of the daily dose by no more than 0.5 mg every 3 days).
The total duration of the treatment, including the gradual withdrawal phase, should not exceed 8 – 12 weeks. Ultimately, the treating doctor decides on the duration of the application.

Kontraindikation
Das Arzneimittel darf nicht eingenommen werden,
wenn Sie allergisch gegen Alprazolam, andere Benzodiazepine oder einen der sonstigen Bestandteile dieses Arzneimittels sind.
wenn Sie an einer bestimmten schweren Muskelschwache (Myasthenia gravis) erkrankt sind.
wenn Sie unter schweren Storungen der Atmung leiden.
wenn bei Ihnen nachts manchmal die Atmung aussetzt (Schlafapnoe-Syndrom).
wenn Sie an einer schweren Leberfunktionsstorung leiden.
bei einer akuten Vergiftung mit Alkohol oder anderen Substanzen, die auf das Gehirn wirken.
Dosierung von Alprazolam
Nehmen Sie dieses Arzneimittel immer genau nach Absprache mit Ihrem Arzt ein. Fragen Sie bei Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker nach, wenn Sie sich nicht sicher sind.
Falls vom Arzt nicht anders verordnet, ist die empfohlene Dosis
Erwachsene
Anfangsdosierung:
3-mal taglich ? – 1 Tablette (entsprechend 3-mal taglich 0,25 – 0,5 mg Alprazolam). Falls erforderlich, kann die Dosis in Abstanden von 3 – 4 Tagen erhoht werden auf:
Erhaltungsdosierung:
1 bis maximal 6 Tabletten pro Tag, auf geteilt in mehrere Einzelgaben (entsprechend 0,5 – 3 mg Alprazolam pro Tag).
Altere Patienten, geschwachte Patienten oder Patienten mit Nieren- oder Leberfunktionsstorungen

2 – 3-mal taglich ? Tablette (entsprechend 2 – 3-mal taglich 0,25 mg Alprazolam). Falls erforderlich und falls es das Krankheitsbild zulasst, kann die Dosis in Abstanden von 3 – 4 Tagen erhoht werden auf:

maximal bis 3 Tabletten pro Tag, aufgeteilt in mehrere Einzelgaben.
Fur gebrechliche Patienten oder geschwachte Patienten mit Nieren- oder Leberfunktionsstorung wird eine niedrigere Dosis (1 ? Tabletten, entsprechend 0,75 mg Alprazolam pro Tag) empfohlen.
Fur Dosierungen, die mit Alprazolam nicht einzuhalten sind, stehen Tabletten mit 0,25 mg und 1,0 mg Alprazolam zur Verfugung. Bei Auftreten von Nebenwirkungen wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihren Arzt. Eventuell sollte die Dosis reduziert werden.
Falls eine Dosiserhohung erforderlich ist, sollte zuerst die Dosierung am Abend erhoht werden, bevor die Dosierung am Tag erhoht wird.
Bitte sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker, wenn Sie den Eindruck haben, dass die Wirkung zu stark oder zu schwach ist.
Dauer der Anwendung
Die Dauer der Behandlung sollte so kurz wie moglich sein.
Nach langerer Anwendungsdauer sollte die Beendigung der Behandlung schrittweise (Reduzierung der Tagesdosis um nicht mehr als 0,5 mg alle 3 Tage) erfolgen.
Die Gesamtdauer der Behandlung sollte, einschlie?lich der schrittweisen Absetzphase, 8 – 12 Wochen nicht ubersteigen, letztlich entscheidet der behandelnde Arzt uber die Dauer der Anwendung.
