The medicinal product contains the active substance finasteride.
It is only intended for the treatment of men.
The medicine is used to treat male pattern hair loss (also known as androgenetic alopecia) in men aged 18 to 41 years. If you have any questions about male pattern hair loss after reading the package leaflet, consult your doctor.
Male pattern hair loss is common and thought to be caused by a combination of heredity and a specific hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT contributes to a shortening of the growth phase of the hair and a thinning of the hair.
In the scalp, the drug specifically lowers DHT levels by inhibiting an enzyme (type II 5-alpha-reductase) that converts testosterone to DHT. Only men with mild to moderate hair loss, but not with complete hair loss, can expect an improvement from treatment with the medicine. Most men treated with the drug for 5 years slowed the progression of hair loss and at least half of these men saw improved hair growth.

The medicine must not be taken
if you are a woman (because this medicine is only for men, see pregnancy section). It has been shown in clinical trials that the medicine is not effective in women with hair loss.

Dosage of Propecia 1mg film-coated tablets
Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is 1 tablet daily.

If you take more than you should
If you accidentally take too many tablets, contact your doctor immediately.
The preparation will not work better or faster if you take it several times a day.
If you forget to take a dose
Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking it
It may take 3 to 6 months of treatment for the full effect to develop.
It is important to keep taking the medicine for as long as your doctor tells you. If you stop using the medicine, you are likely to lose the hair gained from the treatment within 9 to 12 months.

Das Arzneimittel wird zur Behandlung des Haarausfalls vom mannlichen Typ (auch bekannt als androgenetische Alopezie) bei Mannern im Alter von 18 bis 41 Jahren angewendet. Wenn Sie zum Haarausfall vom mannlichen Typ noch Fragen haben, nachdem Sie die Gebrauchsinformation gelesen haben, wenden Sie sich an Ihren Arzt.
Haarausfall vom mannlichen Typ ist weit verbreitet und man geht davon aus, dass er durch eine Kombination aus Vererbung und einem bestimmten Hormon, dem sog. Dihydrotestosteron (DHT) verursacht wird. DHT tragt zu einer Verkurzung der Wachstumsphase der Haare und einer Verdunnung der Haare bei.
In der Kopfhaut senkt das Arzneimittel spezifisch die DHT-Spiegel, indem es ein Enzym (Typ-II-5-Alpha-Reduktase) hemmt, welches Testosteron zu DHT umwandelt. Nur Manner mit leichtem bis ma?igem Haarausfall, nicht aber mit vollstandigem Haarverlust konnen von der Behandlung mit dem Arzneimittel eine Besserung erwarten. Bei den meisten Mannern, die 5 Jahre mit dem Praparat behandelt wurden, wurde ein Fortschreiten des Haarverlustes gebremst und bei mindestens der Halfte dieser Manner verbesserte sich das Haarwachstum.
Kontraindikation
Das Arzneimittel darf nicht eingenommen werden
wenn Sie eine Frau sind (denn dieses Arzneimittel ist nur fur Manner, siehe Kategorie “Schwangerschaft”). Es wurde in klinischen Studien gezeigt, dass das Arzneimittel bei Frauen mit Haarausfall nicht wirksam ist.
wenn Sie uberempfindlich (allergisch) gegen Finasterid oder einen der sonstigen Bestandteile des Arzneimittels sind.
Dosierung von Propecia 1mg Filmtabletten
Nehmen Sie das Arzneimittel immer genau nach Absprache mit Ihrem Arzt ein. Bitte fragen Sie bei Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker nach, wenn Sie sich nicht ganz sicher sind.
Die empfohlene Dosis ist 1 Tablette taglich.
Dauer der Anwendung
Ihr Arzt wird Ihnen bei der Feststellung helfen, ob Sie auf die Behandlung mit dem Arzneimittel ansprechen. Es ist wichtig, das Arzneimittel so lange einzunehmen, wie vom Arzt verordnet. Es kann nur langfristig wirken, wenn Sie es fortlaufend einnehmen.
Wenn Sie eine gro?ere Menge eingenommen haben, als Sie sollten
Wenn Sie versehentlich zu viele Tabletten eingenommen haben, wenden Sie sich umgehend an Ihren Arzt.
Das Praparat wird weder besser noch schneller wirken, wenn Sie es mehrmals taglich einnehmen.
Wenn Sie die Einnahme vergessen haben
Nehmen Sie keine zusatzliche Dosis zum Ausgleich fur eine vergessene Dosis ein.
Wenn Sie die Einnahme abbrechen
Es kann eine Behandlung uber 3 bis 6 Monate erforderlich sein, bis sich die volle Wirkung entwickelt.
Es ist wichtig, dass Sie das Arzneimittel so lange einnehmen, wie von Ihrem Arzt verordnet. Wenn Sie die Behandlung mit dem Arzneimittel abbrechen, werden Sie vermutlich das durch die Behandlung gewonnene Haar innerhalb von 9 bis 12 Monaten wieder verlieren.
