This dose strength is appropriate when higher doses of metformin hydrochloride are required.
The usual dose is 2 film-coated tablets per day (equivalent to 2000 mg metformin hydrochloride).
The maximum daily dose is 3 coated tablets per day (equivalent to 3000 mg metformin hydrochloride).

Monotherapy and combination therapy with insulin:
The usual dose is initially one 500 mg film-coated tablet or one 850 mg film-coated tablet per day (equivalent to 500–850 mg metformin hydrochloride) taken with or after a meal.
